Sport- Key Stage 3

The Sport department is an enthusiastic and energetic team committed to achievement both in practical & theoretical elements of sport. With over nine sports studied through the National Curriculum and an extensive range of extra-curricular activities, the Sport department offers opportunities for every level of ability and sporting interest.

Pupils will build on and embed the physical development and skills they learned in key stages 1 and 2, whilst becoming more competent, confident and expert in their techniques whilst applying them across a number of different sports and physical activities.

Learners will partake in 'blocks' of work where different activities will be studied and students will have the opportunity to use a range of tactics and strategies in order to overcome opponents. In addition to this students will be given the opportunity to develop key techniques in competitive situations, whilst being presented with intellectual and physical challenges. Students will be expected to perform successfully in a team and also have the chance to perform in individual activities. Every student at Budmouth is able to access a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and opportunities.

Typical activities taught at key stage three include; Rugby, Netball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, Health related education, Trampolining or Gymnastics, Climbing, Tennis, Cricket, Rounders and Athletics.

Assessment happens at the end of each topic and students are graded as either Beginner, Improver, Competent, Proficient or Expert in line with our departmental developed resources. Students will be able to self-assess, peer assess and also create a suitable target in order to help them progress.
