Students follow a two year Key Stage 3 curriculum in Years 7 and 8 which comprises: English, Maths, Science, Design & Technology, ICT, Geography, History, a Modern Foreign Language, Citizenship/PSHEE, Ethics & Philosophy, Sport, Art & Design, Dance, Drama and Music. The English lessons include a programme of specific lessons focused on reading skills.
Attainment targets for Key Stage 3 are based on prior attainment at Key Stage 2, Cognitive Ability Tests and subject baseline assessments. Students’ progress is assessed using ‘Budmouth levels’ that are based on the national curriculum and the subject skillset required at Key Stage 4.
During Year 8, students choose their Key Stage 4 options, with the support of their tutor, subject teachers and parents. Students are guided in the choices they make via directed core and directed option subjects.
