The science laboratories in the Hub complement the learning experience in science lessons and extra-curricular activities.
 
Course Information
 
In Years 7, 8 and up until February half-term of Year 9, students follow a course that is based on the Activate series of resources. Although timings may vary the modules studied are shown below.

Cells, body systems, particles and their behaviour, elements, atoms and compounds, forces and sound
Reproduction, reactions, acids and alkalis and light
Space and extended projects
Pupils will sit a baseline assessment during the first half of the Autumn term. This will examine the pupils scientific knowledge developed during KS2. End of topic tests take place approximately every 3-4 weeks. Pupils will also sit an end of year exam in the Summer term.

GCSE Course
End of topic tests take place approximately every 4 weeks. Pupils will also sit an exam after Christmas (week 18). They may move groups after Feb half-term (week 21).

Assessment
 
Students are assessed regularly using differentiated resources. Assessment has a strong foundation in the APP (Assessing Pupils’ Progress) approach. Formative feedback is given in order to help students reach their full potential.
