The Performing Arts department offers students the opportunity to work within four main disciplines: Dance, Drama, Music and Music Technology. Although these areas are taught separately, there is a great deal of collaboration within the department and the opportunity to share skills and ideas within the art forms.
The curriculum at KS3 covers the teaching of basic skills and techniques, whilst at KS4 students develop their skills further and work towards more formal performances and recording of their work. At KS5, students go on to specialise within their subject areas with greater emphasis placed on the creation and development of original pieces. They also are introduced to a wide variety of artists and practitioner specialist to help them develop their own style and understanding of their chosen art form(s).
Our extra curricular provision is second to none with clubs offered in a wide variety of skills across the subject areas. Students have the opportunity to perform in large scale school productions, on a professional stage and to develop technological skills, for example in lighting, sound and recording.
The department prides itself on the work done with outside agencies and the many and varied opportunities this gives to all of our students.
