The design and Technology department is made up of six specialist areas:-
Textiles, Resistant Materials, Food Technology, Electronics, Graphics and Engineering. The department deliver active practical learning experiences that are underpinned with technical theory lessons. The learning is focussed towards students passing their GCSE’s and A levels with very good personal grades. Many either go to University, take a modern apprenticeship, or go on to further education courses that lead to employment.
Key Stage 3
All students have the opportunity to practise Textiles, Resistant Materials, Electronics, Food and Graphics. This is a two year Key stage 3 programme. Each area has its own dedicated rooms, fully equipped to give the students a feel for the materials, processes and develop the design skills required to take the subject further as an option in Key Stage 4.
Key Stage 4
Within Key Stage 4 students will learn how to design and produce exciting well made products. There are six areas. Textiles, Resistant Materials, Food Technology, Robotics, Graphics and Engineering. They will consider industrial practices and how we need to design products that are environmentally sensitive. All the staff enjoy teaching their specialism and look to create lively areas that are safe and stimulating places to learn.
The examining board that we use for GCSE Technology is AQA

Key Stage 5
In the Sixth Form students will be able to study A-level Textiles, Food Technology, Product Design, Systems or Engineering. Lessons are taught in dedicated rooms in the Design and Technology Centre. Students in years 12 and 13 learn through a design and make coursework unit and in timetabled theory lessons that focus on the end of year formal external examination.
The examining boards we use for Key Stage 5 are:
A-level Product Design, Textiles, Systems and Control and Food Technology - AQA
A level Engineering – EDEXCEL
